In South Korea, economic growth has been the fruit of industrial development: Korea experienced rapid economic growth thanks to the international competitiveness of its semiconductor, automotive, and shipbuilding industries, among others.

Since its founding in 1976, the Korea Institute for Industrial Economics and Trade (슬롯 커뮤니티) has played no small role in this development, laying the intellectual foundations for Korea’s industrial policies over the past half-century.

The global economy has entered a period of great transition, with major industrial, environmental, technological and political movements reshaping the global economic order. Key issues include the retreat of globalization amid a rising tide of protectionism, the climate crisis and carbon regulations, and the rapid expansion of digital technology and AI.

As Korea’s only national think tank specializing in industrial policy, we are committed to lighting the path ahead for the Korean economy with a vision of future growth, crafting strategies and designing policies that respond to rapid changes in the global environment.
